OUTBACK BOWL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS IN TAMPA BAY

Michigan scored a touchdown in the final minute to defeat Alabama in the 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl, the first ever meeting of the stored programs.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK For the first time in history the storied programs of Alabama and Michigan squared-off on the gridiron in the 2nd Hall of Fame Bowl. The game featured two outstanding running backs as Michigan's Jamie Morris and Bama's Bobby Humphrey led their teams attacks as the two teams combined for an amazing 469 yards on the ground! Twenty-seven Outback Bowl Alumni Selected in NFL Draft

The Outback Bowl hosts some of the best college football talent each year and that point continues to be proven every spring by NFL teams as twenty-seven players who played in the New Year's Day bowl game during their college careers were selected in the 2010 NFL draft.

Four players were selected in the first round led by Tennessee safety Eric Berry as the 5th overall pick. That brings the total number to at least 611 alumni of this bowl game who have been drafted or signed as free agents with NFL teams over its history. In just the past seven years 174 players have been drafted including 25 first round picks. .Read the full story.

OUTBACK BOWL UNVEILS COMMEMORATIVE LOGO TO CELEBRATE 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Outback Bowl officials today unveiled a commemorative logo that will be used over the next ten months as the popular college football bowl celebrates its 25th Anniversary game in Tampa. The New Year’s Day Bowl matches teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference. It was first played in December of 1986 as the Hall of Fame Bowl and later became the Outback Bowl with the signing of Outback Steakhouse as its title sponsor in 1995. The game has been a part of the New Year’s Day line-up for 22 years. .Read the full story.

OUTBACK BOWL EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH SEC THROUGH 2014 GAME

Outback Bowl officials have completed the final piece of its major contract renewals with its conference and network partners with today’s announcement of an agreement to extend its contracts with the Southeastern Conference for four additional years through the January 2014 Bowl game. Officials have previously announced four year extensions with title sponsor Outback Steakhouse the Big Ten Conference, and ESPN thus today’s announcement completes efforts to continue its relationships with all four major entities.

As part of the new agreements, the Outback Bowl will kick-off at 1:00 P.M. ET New Year’s Day in Tampa and televised on ABC TV while matching the third pick of teams from the SEC and Big Ten Conference.Read the full story.

OUTBACK BOWL MOVES KICKOFF TO 1:00 PM NEW YEAR'S DAY, TELECAST TO ABC AS PART OF NETWORK EXTENSION

Outback Bowl officials have completed negotiations with its network partner ESPN with the announcement of an agreement to extend its contract for four additional years through the January 2014 game. As part of the new agreement, starting with the January 2011 Outback Bowl, the game will move its kick-off to 1:00 P.M. ET on New Year’s Day in Tampa and be televised on ABC. Read the full story.

AMAZING! Auburn Wins 2010 Outback Bowl in Overtime

A total of 18 Outback Bowl records were broken and another 10 were tied as the Auburn Tigers defeated the Northwestern Wildcats in a wild 38-35 contest January 1st that featured trick plays, a 100 yard interception return and the Tigers rushing the field to celebrate three times in the final minutes. The overtime win came after the Wildcats scored back-to-back touchdowns, and then completed a 2-point conversion on a reverse pass, to tie the score 35-35 with 1:15 left in the 4th quarter. In overtime, though, Wes Byrum completed a 21-yard field to put the Tigers up 38-35. Then the Wildcats field goal hit the upright. But a roughing the kicker penalty gave them one more life that would finally fall short on 4th down. Check out the final box score and game day pictures in the photo gallery.
