IOWA HAWKEYE NOTES

Iowa in 2013: TheHawkeyes enter the Outback Bowl with an 8-4 record winning four of their last fivegames (and final three) to earn a spot in the Outback Bowl. Iowa ranks in the top four of the Big Ten in ninestatistical categories. It was third inscoring defense, total defense, second in passing defense and first in fewest sacksallowed. The Hawkeyes only allowed 18.8points per game.

Welcome Back: Thiswill be the fourth appearance by the Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl where theyare 2-1. Iowa defeated South Carolina31-10 in the 2008 bowl, lost to Florida 31-24 in the 2006 game and downedFlorida 37-17 in its first appearance in 2004.

Hawkeye Tradition: This is 124th year of football at Iowawhere they have compiled an overall record of 606-534-39. The Hawkeyes have won four NationalChampionships, 11 Big Ten Championships and 14 bowl games over their history.

Iowa in the Bowls: This is the 27th bowl appearance for the Hawkeyesincluding their 11th bowl in the last 13 years. They hold a 14-11-1record in bowls. Iowa's6-4 record in bowl games, since 2001,is the best mark in the Big Ten.

Feature Players: The Hawkeye's boast a balanced offense backed up by one of the topdefenses in the Big Ten. Iowa rushes foran average of 189 yards on the ground led by RB Mark Weisman who has run for 938 yards on 209 carries for a 4.5average. He's scored 7 TDs as well. Tailbacks Damon Bullock and Jordan Canzeri have combined foranother 914 yards (467 and 447 respectively) rushing and 3 TDs. Canzeri averaged 6.7 yards per carry.

Sophomore QB Jake Rudock completed 60.2% of hisattempts completing 195-of-324 passes for 2,281 yards and 18 TDs, while throwing 12 interceptions. His favorite targets are WR Kevonte Martin-Manley, who caught 39passes for 384 yards and 4 TDs. Martin-Manleyalso led the conference in punt returns with a 16.2 yard average and 2TDs. TE C.J. Fiedorowicz has 26 catches for 253 yards and 6 TDs, while Tevaun Smith grabbed 24 catches for 310yards and 1 TD.

The signature Hawkeye defenseis led by MLB James Morris, who is a finalistfor the Lott IMPACT Trophy, presented to the defensive impact player of theyear. Morris has notched 98 tackles and 4 interceptions,including a team-high 14.5 tackles-for-a-lossand 5 sacks. LB Anthony Hitchens leads the team with 102 tackles and has 13 TFL and2 sacks along with 1 interception. LBChristian Kirksey has 97 tackles, including 4TFL while SS John Lowdermilk has 72tackles and CB Desmond King added63.

Coach Kirk Ferentz: Kirk Ferentzis in his 15th season as Hawkeye Head Coach where he is 108-78. Ferentz wasnamed National Coach of the Year in 2002 and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2002,2004 and 2009, joining Hayden Fry, Bo Schembechler and Joe Paterno as the onlythree-time recipients. He guided Iowa toBig Ten titles in 2002 and 2004. Ferentzreturned to Iowa, where he had been an Assistant Coach under Hayden Fry fornine years, after a six year stretch as Assistant Head Coach for the BaltimoreRavens.
