Game Summary - January 1, 1995

January 1, 1995

Wisconsin 34, Duke 20

The Badgers followed up their Rose Bowl appearance with a trip to Tampa for a date with 1994's Cinderella team, the Duke Blue Devils.

The first quarter started poorly for the Blue Devils as the Badger defense intercepted passes on each of their first three possessions, returning one for a TD, en route to a 13-0 lead. But Duke pulled even with a 7-yard Robert Baldwin TD run and two field goals of their own.

In the second half Wisconsin went to their running game with Terrell Fletcher leading the way. Terrell ran for 104 yards over two Badger TD drives to open a 14 point lead, but Duke QB Spence Fischer led the Blue Devils on an 80 yard drive to cut the score to 27-20.

With 2:00 minutes remaining and down by just 7 points Duke was one play away from getting the ball back for one last chance at a come back. However, the huge Badger linemen opened a gaping hole for Fletcher who then scampered untouched 49 yards to the endzone, capping the victory. Terrell ended the day with a bowl record 241 yards on 39 carries and the game MVP trophy.
